North Somerset
I'm based in Clevedon, in the heart of North Somerset, and enjoy taking on new projects close to home in the coastal villages, conservation areas and surrounding countryside that make this such a varied place to build.
North Somerset is a landscape with a lot of contrast: Victorian seafront terraces, agricultural buildings, country estates and more recent family housing all sit close together, which means every project tends to bring its own particular constraints and opportunities.
A good number of properties here fall within a conservation area, listed building designations, the North Somerset green belt or the National Landscape (AONB) of the Mendip Hills, all of which shape what's achievable in planning terms and often forms the focus of initial design considerations. I specialise in gaining planning consent within tricky planning and site constraints and can help you to unlock design potential and approach the planning process strategically.

Bristol & Bath
I also take on projects in Bristol and Bath, two cities with very different characters but a shared need for a careful, context-led approach to design. In Bristol, my work has included a project within the Leigh Woods Conservation Area, where the brief called for fitting new, contemporary design into a sensitive setting without disrupting it.
Bath’s architecture is, understandably, even more tightly defined by its heritage, and it’s a city that rewards (and often requires) a conservation-literate approach, which lines up closely with my specialism. I take on a smaller number of projects in both cities, usually where the brief calls for that kind of experience.

Portishead, Nailsea, Chew Valley
Beyond Clevedon, I enjoy working on projects across the wider North Somerset area, including Portishead, Nailsea and the villages of the Chew Valley. Like Clevedon, this is a mix of coastal towns, semi-rural villages and farmland, with similar planning considerations around conservation areas, green belt land and, in parts of the Chew Valley, the Mendip Hills AONB. Projects here tend to be extensions and renovations to existing family homes, alongside occasional work on older farmhouses and agricultural buildings in the more rural areas.

The Cotswolds and Further Afield
Before moving to North Somerset, I spent several years working on projects in the Cotswolds, an area with a particularly high concentration of listed and period buildings, and that’s where much of my experience in heritage and conservation work was built. I still take on the occasional project back in that area, along with similar heritage-led work further afield, where a property’s listed status or setting calls for the kind of detailed, sensitive approach I specialise in.
