Leigh Woods Extension & Reconfiguration
Leigh Woods, Bristol (Conservation Area)
Situated within the sensitive context of the Leigh Woods Conservation Area, this project balanced striking modernism with strict planning criteria. The client brief focused on enhancing daily functionality, adding clean geometric forms, and improving private outdoor living spaces.
The primary architectural intervention features a minimalist boot room and utility extension with a distinct white render finish and a bold, curved cantilevered canopy. Alongside this extension, the existing floor plans were reconfigured, including structural roof alterations to the snug to enhance the modernist language of the exterior and introduce additional natural light.
To the rear, the design incorporates bespoke, high-level timber batten privacy screens and a new slatted canopy. This architectural screening provides privacy from neighboring properties while maintaining clean, contemporary lines that frame the landscaped decking area. The resulting design provides a highly functional, secure, and visually sharp family home that respects its setting.
