A New House Next to a Listed Cottage

Fontmell Magna, Dorset

This project involved the design of a new dwelling nestled within the curtilage of a Grade II listed cottage. The existing cottage had a large garden and our client approached us looking for ways to maximize the potential of the land whilst still respecting the setting of the cottage where they lived.

Our approach addressed the design challenges of the listed building, conservation area and the setting of the Cranbourne Chase National Landscape. A traditional form and materials were used to allow the building to settle in to the landscape, whilst an open plan layout and oak frame extension to the rear allows the property to meet the requirements of modern living.
